Tafinlar: Understanding its Uses and Side-effects

Tafinlar is a FDA-approved prescription medicine used for the following adult conditions:

  • Non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
  • Melanoma, a form of skin cancer
  • Anaplastic thyroid cancer (a form of thyroid cancer in which the cancer cells resemble regular thyroid cell)

Tafinlar is authorized to address these conditions in limited circumstances. Tafinlar has the active ingredient Dabrafenib, which is not suitable for all forms of melanoma or NSCLC. It will only inhibit the development of skin cancer cells with a specific hereditary mutation in the BRAF V600 gene. Before prescribing dabrafenib, your doctor will look for this variant.

Tafinlar’s safety and effectiveness in children is unknown.
