Ramipril (Altace) is an Angiotensin-converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It is used for several conditions, including hypertension (high blood pressure) treatment and the prevention of heart failure progression following a myocardial infarction, or heart attack.
Ramipril (Altace) is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and mortality in individuals over the age of 55 who have a high risk of atherosclerosis and significant adverse cardiac events.
What dosages of Ramipril (Altace) are available?
Ramipril (Altace) is available in the following dosage forms:
- 1.25 mg
- 2.5 mg

- 10 mg
The typical dosing for Ramipril (Altace) depends on your current health.
If you have high blood pressure, the normal oral dose ranges from 2.5 mg to 20 mg per day. Smaller amounts are typically taken once daily, but higher doses can be divided into two divided doses and taken twice daily.

Ramipril (Altace) can cause a rise in potassium levels in the body. Unless otherwise directed, avoid salt alternatives and potassium supplements.
You may be administered an ACE inhibitor or an angiotensinreceptor blocker (ARB), but not both.
Taking two types of medication at the same time may be dangerous. It is important if you tell your doctor all the medicines you are currently taking.

Being from certain ethnic groups
When taking Ramipril (Altace) or other ACE inhibitors, angioedema, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, and/or other organs, can occur at any time. Black people are at a higher danger than people of other ethnic groups.
Taking certain cancer medications
Certain cancer and organ transplant drugs (Everolimus and Sirolimus) also increase your risk of angioedema, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, and/or other organs. If you develop swelling in your tongue or throat, seek medical attention immediately, especially if it causes difficulties breathing.
People who have history of kidney problems or congestive heart failure
Ramipril (Altace) can develop or exacerbate renal issues in rare circumstances. Before taking Ramipril (Altace), you’ll need blood tests to assess your kidney health, and you’ll need to take these tests at least once a year.
Ramipril (Altace) might cause an increase in potassium levels in the body. High potassium levels are extremely harmful and must be treated as soon as possible. Diabetes and kidney disorders increase your chances of developing this condition. There are various other medications that can boost potassium levels, so be sure to ask your pharmacist or healthcare practitioner if you are taking any other medications that may be interacting with Ramipril (Altace).
