What is Hydrogen Peroxide?

It is an antiseptic and antifungal solution which is mild in nature and is used to prevent infections on the skin.

Health Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

Cleans Minor Cuts & Wounds 

The antiseptic, when applied to the skin, releases oxygen which helps clean up the wound and kill the germs around. It might cause a little irritation when applied. 

Ear Wax

Swollen Gums

Swollen Gums are a result of poor dental hygiene and can lead to various dental problems.

According to Healthline, you can potentially treat swollen gums by taking two parts of water and mixing it with one part of Hydrogen Peroxide. Swish it around for 30 minutes and then rinse your mouth with normal water. The swelling might reduce, but if not then do consult a dentist. 

Canker Sores

Teeth Whitening 

Hydrogen Peroxide is popularly used as an ingredient in teeth whitening products. If you want clear white teeth, look for Hydrogen Peroxide in your toothpaste or mouthwash. It is also used by dentists, but in a much more intense form, for teeth whitening. Although excessive use of Hydrogen Peroxide can cause harm to your teeth. 

Disinfectant 

Many health institutes, medical professionals and hospitals use Hydrogen Peroxide as a disinfectant, as it is very effective in killing germs and bacteria. It is usually used to kill a parasite known as cryptosporidiosis.(Source:CDC)

Seborrheic Keratosis 

These harmless warts are usually found on topical skin as a sign of aging. They can always be located at either the neck, back or chest. It can be easily removed by using a Hydrogen Peroxide based cream, but before you start using it do consult your dermatologist.(Source: American Family Physician)

  • Erythema also known as skin redness 
  • Edema, or swelling
